What’s the Difference between Choosing Credit and Debit?
Understand Your Choice at the Register
ATM & Debit Cards
Decisions, decisions. Every time you go shopping and use your debit card to pay at the register, you’re asked to choose debit or credit. So what’s the difference?
When choosing “debit” at the register, you will need to enter your PIN (Personal Identification Number). Your transaction will be sent through the online network used by that merchant to process the payment from your checking account.
If you select “credit,” you will have to sign for the transaction. When making a signature-based “credit” purchase with your debit card, your transaction is processed through the MasterCard® card network. A hold will be placed on the required funds in your checking account, then a few days later the transaction will be processed and deducted from the account.
Choosing “credit” also provides several benefits to you!
Enjoy Protection For Your Purchases. When choosing “credit,” your National Iron Bank debit card transactions are directed through the MasterCard® network, which means you’ll enjoy the maximum level of MasterCard® security. You can feel confident about the security of your signature-based, “credit” transactions since you’ll receive all the protections of your MasterCard, including personal identity theft coverage, fraud protection and zero liability for unauthorized use!
Earn Advantage Points. When our customers choose signature-based transactions, they’re also earning points that can be used the get gift cards, travel, name-brand products and more!
